Product designers are constantly working on redesigning the way we do things in order to make our lives faster and easier. If you have ever made your own sushi then you will know that it can be a messy and time consuming process. This is especially true when you are not exactly a whiz in the kitchen! The relatively new field of ergonomics has seen contributions from many different sectors and produced some truly useful and cool results. The Bazooka Sushi maker is a fantastic example of this. Two of the main goals of ergonomics are to increase ease of use and productivity, and this innovative food shaper does both of these things. It can be used to shape many different foods but is particularly popular for making sushi. Watch the video below to see it in action.

Why Make Your Own?

Preparing food is not just a chore in modern times it is also a creative outlet and hobby that many people indulge in on a regular basis. Preparing your own sushi rather than purchasing it ready made gives you the opportunity to experiment with different fillings. Some popular traditional fillings are seafood, vegetables and sometimes tropical fruits. Sushi is traditionally made using cooked vinegared rice, so if you have a taste for the original you can prepare it in the original Japanese style, or experiment with different types such as wild rice. Rice goes easily with many different ingredients so there is plenty of room to be creative and include your favorite foods in order to design your own signature sushi!

There are many different types of sushi such as Makizushi (rolled sushi), Futomaki (thick, large or fat rolls), Ehōmaki (lucky direction roll) and Temaki (hand roll). Check out the Sushi Wikipedia entry for more information on the different types. You will find lots of interesting variations to inspire you you as you create your own rice based dishes.

The Sushi Bazooka is available on Amazon and if  you would like to try some different kinds of sushi recipes, there is a kindle book with more than 50 recipes available for only 57 cents.
