Job Summary

A. Job/Research Summary
The National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), Transportation and Hydrogen Systems Center in Golden CO has an opening for a student internship. The position is part-time (20-40 hours per week). The student will assist with both experimental and analytical research on novel bonded interface materials for improving power electronics reliability.
B. Job Duties
The primary job duties will involve building and running laboratory research experiments to investigate the reliability of advanced power electronics packaging strategies. Applicants should be familiar with experimental procedures and equipment such as data acquisition systems, temperature sensors, and load cells. The data will also support model validation and accuracy. Applicants will also need to contribute to written publications and oral presentations.
C. Required Education and Experience
Must be a full time student. Background in power electronics and/or mechanics of materials is required. Experience with laboratory work and conducting experiments is necessary. Experience with computer programming and application of computer models is also necessary. This includes skills in MATLAB (or similar environment), ANSYS, and Excel. Ability to process and analyze experimental and model results required. Strong communication skills including interpersonal, presentations, and writing required. Ability to work both independently and with a team needed.
D. Preferred Qualifications
Graduate student in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related discipline is preferred. Experience using LabVIEW and SolidWorks a strong plus. Background in electric machines and/or power electronics a plus.

Required Education, Experience, and Skills

Must be enrolled as a full-time student in a degree granting program, or graduated in the past 12 months from an accredited institution.
Internship period cannot exceed 12 months past graduation.
Minimum of a 3.0 cumulative grade point average.
