Tramontana Supercar! - Interesting Engineering

Tramontana Supercar!

August 15, 2012
Tramontana a.d. is a Spanish company which manufactures futuristic-looking supercar called Tramontana. The company is located in Costa Brava and produces something that looks like a hybrid between F1 race car and supersonic jet. This car provides place for a driver and one passenger sitting behind the driver. The engine is placed in the middle of the car, V-shaped, with 12 cylinders, 60 valves and 5.513 cubic cm big. He is supplied with two turbochargers which offer two choices of maximum power: 550Hp at 5000rpm and 720Hp at 5250rpm (rotations-per-minute) given to the rear wheels.
The whole car body is made of carbon fibers, thus making the vehicle extremely strong, reliable and lightweight at the same time – 1268 kg without fuel. You can expect excellent maneuverability and road behavior due to the fact that each one of the four wheels is independently suspended. For your money you get also 6 speed sequential gearbox, traction control, brakes with ABS and carbon ceramic disks and 20 inches wide rims made of carbon fibers with magnesium core. Performance stats are quite impressive:
Maximum speed: 325 km/h (limited electronically).
Acceleration 0-100 km/h: 3.6 sec, only 0.2 sec slower than Bugatti Veyron. But the price of Tramontana is “only” half the Veyron’s price – 490 000$.
