What does a car mechanic do?
Car mechanics, as the name suggests, are professionals who either perform general car maintenance or repair on vehicles or specialize in a particular service like brakes or tires.
"A mechanic works on automobiles, trucks and related transportation, and material-moving vehicles. Some mechanics perform general maintenance and repairs, while others may specialize in tires, brakes, engines, or on-board computers." - study.com.
What are some car mechanic nightmare stories?
So, without further ado, here are some interesting, funny and weird car repair stories. Trust us when we say this list is far from exhaustive and is in no particular order.
1. Nah my tires are just fine!
Customer refused all 4 tires on a rainy day, she also had to sign a waiver before releasing the car. from r/Justrolledintotheshop
This customer wouldn't take the advice of their mechanic when they suggested their car needed a new set of tires. While you can squeeze some more mileage out of older tires, when they are completely bald, it might be a good idea to change them!
Especially when the weather is particularly inclement. To cover themselves, the mechanics, wisely, asked her to sign a waiver before driving off.
2. Maybe just replace the owner?
It's always nice when the manufacturer understands the plight of car mechanics. While "the customer is always right" is a common mantra in business, there are times you just want them to shut up and go away.
For car mechanics, the temptation to "sack" the customer is all too common. At least Mercedes understands.
3. "My brakes are a little squeaky"
This customer must have had a shock when they learned what had transpired with their brakes. After calling into a car mechanic to check why their brakes didn't feel right, the problem was pretty evident when the tire was removed.
This really gives a new meaning to thinking your brakes are a little squeaky. RIP, little rodent.
4. Go in for an oil change, come out without a muffler
This unfortunate customer had the surprise of their life after finding out their car was making a loud noise. What's worse is that they, the day before, been in for an oil change.
When the new mechanic took a look they found that their car was missing a muffler. Whether or not this was the fault of the previous garage or happened overnight, why on Earth would you steal a muffler?
No wonder it was making a lot of noise!
5. Car brakes are a small animal's Kryptonite
Further to example 3 above, it appears little animals are inexplicably attracted to car brakes. In this example, our victim is a poor unfortunate lizard.
At least their death appears to have been pretty instant. Small blessings.
6. Are you serious mate?
Customer came in a half hour before closing asking for one tire and an alignment. from r/Justrolledintotheshop
Nobody likes receiving a complicated job, right at the end of the day. But that's exactly what these poor mechanics received one day.
The customer, after having a pretty serious accident, believed a simple tire change and alignment would solve their problem. Are you having a laugh, mate?
7. Seems you might need an oil top-up sir
You cannot underestimate the silliness of some people. It seems this customer finally relented to an oil change when they noticed their oil levels had reached 0%.
We daren't think what irreparable damage has been done to the car's engine. At least the mechanic's fault-finding was pretty straightforward for this job.
8. Your car service is a little overdue buddy
This customer, clearly not very trusting of their car's ECU, finally took their car in for a service. At almost 10,000 miles, it appears they might be a little overdue.
We find it hard to believe the car hasn't been serviced since rolling off the assembly line. But, given how oblivious some customers can be, it wouldn't surprise us either.
9. Sir, your car has... um... crabs!
Here is something you don't see very often. This car mechanic, while performing some repairs, found that the customer's car had some interesting stowaways.
Quite to their surprise, they managed to uncover not one, but two, hiding crabs. How on Earth did they get there?
Escaped fishing bait perhaps? We may never know for sure.
10. You might need a new filter sir
While customers always try to save a few precious bucks during a service, this one might take the biscuit. During regular service, the client requested that the mechanic just clean up the existing filter a bit.
It might be a bit too late for that.
11. What the hell happened here?
Looks like these guys are in for a bit of fun cleaning this car up. Apparently, this mess is a muffin mix.
How on Earth did this happen? Oh well, the customer is paying.
12. I "fixited" it
This wannabe car mechanic believed their DIY solution to a tire puncture was "on point". Thankfully they eventually saw sense and took their car to a professional.
Good effort though.
13. This car might have a bit of a leak
And finally, this customer was wondering why their radio was making "strange noises." It turns out they might have a nit of a water leak problem.
It's amazing there hasn't been any serious electrical faults until now.
