Twitter accounts belonging to the rich and famous — including Elon Musk, Bill Gates, Jeff Bezos, and Joe Biden — were hijacked simultaneously on Wednesday in one of the most widespread hacks the platform has ever seen. All that was in name of filling certain Bitcoin wallets and sadly, before the scam tweets were deleted, one address had received more than $118,000 already.
Barack Obama, Mike Bloomberg, Apple, Kanye West, Kim Kardashian West, Wiz Khalifa, Warren Buffett, YouTube personality MrBeast, Wendy’s, Uber, CashApp, and some cryptocurrency entrepreneurs were also the target of the coordinated blitz.
Twitter is still investigating the issue and therefore, this is a developing story. The platform previously suspended accounts belonging to verified users from tweeting or replying to other tweets, then turned everything back to the way it was, which is the first time Twitter has ever done this in the company’s history.
In the latest developments, Twitter has confirmed that employee tools were used in the hijacking. Amidst all this storm, Twitter users have not lost their humor of course, which is arguably what they all do best.
We gathered the best Twitter reactions that might make you laugh out loud while pondering about the Pandora's box that is cybersecurity.
