What does the Black Hole Picture look like?

Many waited with bated breath for the unveiling of the first ever picture of a black hole. But, for members of the general public, the final image might seem a little disappointing.

Looking more like a blurry picture of bagel or doughnut, it is actually remarkably close to predictions made by physicists.

Needless to say, this is an impressive achievement by all involved and marks an interesting step forward in our understanding of black holes in general.

How people reacted to the picture on social media?

Inevitably, many people took to social media to give their initial thoughts on this momentous occasion. Whilst many paid tribute to Dr. Katie Bouman, yet others let their imagination get the better of them.

The internet is certainly a fun bag of nonsense at times.

Here are some of the most common, and funniest, memes about the EHT Black Hole we've found. Trust us; there are many, many more out there.

1. Many believe we have finally found proof of Sauron

The first ever captured image of a black hole is certainly an impressive scientific achievement, but it might not be all good news. Many believe that we may be in the sights of great evil.

Sauron, the Dark Lord, far from being a figment of J.R.R. Tolkien's imagination might just be a real entity. Not only that, he appears to have Earth directly in his sights!

If this is true, we should start to get prepared for the inevitable battle for Earth. We'd better summon the Rohirrim and get Gandalf on the phone...

Spooky to say the least! Or of course just a bit of fun, we'll let you make your own mind up.

2. Or, just perhaps, it is an even greater evil

References to the Lord of the Rings aside, some have even claimed it is final proof of the existence of Marvel's Galactus. This former mortal-come-cosmic entity is able to consume planets at will and could have his beady eye on Earth as his next meal.

He is often depicted as a god-like figure whose motives are known only to him and has little, if any regard, for mortal beings. Which is nice to know.

Galactus was created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby and first appeared in Marvel comics in the mid-1960s. Since then he has become one of the primary characters in the Marvel Universe.

It appears, however, that he may be more than science fiction...

If true, there is little we can do to stop him. It might be time to make peace with your gods!

3. Or perhaps the black hole represents an even greater threat to the Universe

If you are not already spooked by the prospect of the discovery of Sauron or Galactus, it might just be an even darker, and far more sinister, creature. Could it, might it, just be proof of the existence of one of the evilest and conceited creatures to have ever been created - Jar Jar Binks?

God help us all if this is true. Jar Jar Binks, far from being a comically inept Gungan from the planet of Naboo, is believed to be one of the most powerful Sith Lords of all time.

His mastery of the Dark Side of the force exceeds even that of the malevolent Darth Sidious (Emperor Palpatine). Hiding behind the facade of a loveable and bungling 'hero,' he has manipulated the major events of history to suit his own dark ambitions.

If true, you'll wish M87* is the eye of Sauron or Galactus...

4. Or could it be proof of a giant doughnut?

Scare-mongering aside, we could finally have proof of an enormous galactic doughnut. The similarity is, frankly, uncanny.

This finding comes thanks to one Paul Scott Canavan, who was able to clean up the image to reveal it's true, delicious, form. Such an enormous piece of confectionary requires immediate space exploration programs to ensure it is used for humanity's benefit.

We must not allow such an enormous desert item to fall into the hands of alien races. Who knows the fate of humanity is such a catastrophe should occur.

Nom, nom.

5. Not a fan of doughnuts? Maybe it’s a giant bagel?

Speculations about the nature of this black hole and it's resemblance to food items are two a penny. Another particularly convincing suggestion is that it is not a doughnut at all, but a giant delicious bagel.

Another keen-eyed amateur astrophysicists were able to carry out some technical jiggery-pokery to enhance the image. What they managed to find was quite, frankly, stunning.

It appears, beyond all reasonable doubt, that we are in fact seeing an image of galactic portion-sized bagel. Not only that, but it appears to be a Cinnamon Raisin Bagel!

We'll let the scientific community fight amongst themselves whether it is a doughnut or bagel. But we must send an expedition immediately to claim it for the greater good.

6. Oh, but wait, it gets worse

One Viktória Bogyová made an interesting discovery about the black hole by simply zooming out. This might seem like an obvious thing to do, but it appears no-one else thought about it before.

What she was found was startling. It appears, we are looking at but one of a pair of eyes of one of the most all-powerful and mysterious creatures in the Universe - A giant black cat!

Let's just hope, for all our sakes, this is a friendly one. We don't want to be its next planet-sized plaything.

Perhaps we can distract it with some of our most powerful lasers?

7. Or is it proof that Mewtwo actually exists?

As impressive as all these suggestions have been, one of our favorites was made by NeO on Twitter. He and others believe we may be looking at actual proof of the existence of one of the least known, and most powerful, pokemon of all time.

If true, we have finally proved the existence of none other than Mewtwo. Whilst this might sound like something to celebrate, the black hole image might just be the first sign of our impending doom.

We may have just caught an image of a gigantic Mewtwo in the middle of casting one of his most powerful attacks - the shadow ball! What is worse, it looks like it is aimed directly at our home planet.

Brace yourself, this is going to get a little rough (when it finally arrives).
