75 Austin Tesla Owners Paraded to Celebrate Texas' New Gigafactory

The factory will bring in $1.1 billion in investment. Now, that's something to parade about!

What do you do when you are really happy and stoked? Throw a parade of course. That's what 75 Austin Tesla owners did on Saturday to celebrate Texas' new Gigafactory.

The Tesla Owners Club members gathered at a nearby shopping center before heading to the factory’s new location. The location is about 15 minutes from downtown Austin. Some members even brought their dogs along for the ride.

The members also networked and later enjoyed a drive-in movie and dinner at a local restaurant. Sounds like good times were had by all.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk revealed that Texas will be the location for its next Gigafactory and that it will be Tesla’s largest yet during the firm’s recent Q2 2020 Earnings Call.

“It will be stunning. It’s right by the Colorado River. It will have a boardwalk… It will be an ecological paradise. It will be open to the public as well,” Musk said during the discussions. He also added that he will build a biking and hiking trail for visitors.

Tesla’s Texas Gigafactory will be responsible primarily for building the Cybertruck but it will also produce the Model 3, the Model Y, and the Tesla Semi. The factory sits on a plot of 2,100 acres (850 hectares).

It's expected that the new establishment will create about 5000 new jobs. There is one catch to the new factory though. Due to a tricky state law, Tesla will not be able to deliver vehicles directly from its Austin location.

Instead, it will have to first ship them out of state before finally giving them to their rightful owners. This is because Tesla uses a sales model that sees cars purchased via the internet.

Regardless of this small hiccup, the factory is said to bring an impressive $1.1 billion in investment to Austin. We wonder if that's what the Tesla owners were truly parading about!
