BBC Billboard Ads for Dracula Reveal a Secret Message after Dark

A series of stakes seemingly organized at random create a shadow of a growling Dracula after sunset.

Great advertising is art, and we can all recognize great art when we see it. This was exactly the case with BBC's latest billboard ad for Dracula.

Billboards with fangs

The giant billboards placed in both Birmingham and London feature a series of what seem like random bloody stakes. The posters are scary enough as they are.

But it is what happens after dark that really sends shivers down your spine. The shadows on those so-called random bloody stakes turn into a Dracula-like shape growling with his mouth opens and his fangs out. Scary stuff...

It's an elegant form of advertising and a very well placed one. Adding to the effect, both billboards have an 'In case of vampires – break glass' box containing a stake.

Part of the team working on this impressive advertising was famed London-based Instagram artist Reuben Dangoor, according to The Daily Mail. The advertising team really went all out to find something that would make an impact.

Fresh and unexpected

"Our campaign for Dracula leaves the audience in no doubt they can expect something fresh and unexpected from this extraordinary adaptation of the vampire classic," BBC Creative creative boss Olly Harnett told The Drum.

"Our unique campaign is one of the most ambitious special builds we've ever undertaken – by day, a random assortment of stakes hammered into a billboard but by night, transformed, as the Count springs to life in the form of a looming shadow."

The billboards are located on Brixton Road in South London and Upper Dean Street in Birmingham. Clever art is to be appreciated, and these scary billboards are brought advertising to a whole new level.
