Car Masks Provide COVID-19 Protection for Vehicles

Because we all can benefit from some extra protection!

In the time of COVID-19 masks have become essential staples. They provide protection against the virus and offer a safer way to navigate the world.

Now, car-sharing platform Turo is introducing masks for cars. Yes! You heard that right. And why not after all? Even our cars need protection.

"To promote travel safety and the importance of wearing a mask in public, Turo is proud to unveil Turo Car Masks. Think of the masks as a reboot of those classic automotive staples of the 1980’s — the car bra — but now with a timely twist to promote an important cause," said in a statement Steve Webb, Vice President of Communications and Brand Partnerships at Turo.

The funny mask sees the entire front of cars covered by a piece of cloth. The aim is to remind people of the importance of wearing masks in public. The company also wants to promote safety while traveling.

Turo is an American peer-to-peer carsharing company that allows car owners to rent out their vehicles via an online and mobile interface. So far, the service has proved popular. In 2017, the firm counted four million users registered and 170,000 cars available for rental.

Their recent mask initiative is also bound to increase their popularity. Masks have become a staple of COVID-19 protection but some reports have surfaced saying the tools may actually increase the risk of contracting the virus.

Infection specialist Eli Perencevich, MD, a professor of medicine and epidemiology at the University of Iowa’s College of Medicine, told Forbes, that masks may increase the risk of the virus by encouraging people to touch their face more often. Despite, this small warning, most health officials actually recommend face masks even to the point of making them obligatory in certain areas.
