Narrow or skinny houses, sometimes called "Spite Houses", are some of the weirdest buildings you'll ever see in your life. With tiny slivers of land available to build on, or to purposefully ruin the view of a neighbor, many of these slim abodes are marvels of the designer's imagination.

Here are some of the most amazing ones from around the world. 


What are some examples of narrow houses?

So, without further ado, here are some amazing examples of very narrow houses from around the world. This list is far from exhaustive and is in no particular order.

This narrow house in Toronto, Ontario really is amazing to look at. Whether you are a fan of modern architecture or not, this narrow house certainly is impressive.

2. This house is one of the narrowest in the entire continental United States

Called the "Spite House", this is officially one of the narrowest houses in the USA. It is thought to have been built in 1830 and is a tiny 7 feet (2.13 m) wide and 25 feet (7.62 m) deep. 

If you want to see it for yourself, the house is located in the Old Town district of Alexandria, Virginia. 

3. This narrow house was built into an old alleyway

Quite a few small or narrow houses are designed and built within very small packets of land -- hence their strange dimensions. This one, called "La Casa Estrecha" can be found in San Juan, Puerto Rico on some land that was originally a small alleyway. 

It is only 5 feet (1.52 m) wide.

4. This one looks a little strange, to say the least

This narrow house in the City of Westminster, London, certainly looks very strange indeed. Called "The Thin House" its design is something of an optical illusion. 

It actually widens along its length to give the building a triangular footprint. At its narrowest, it is a mere 6 feet (1.83 m) wide. 

5. Here is another impossible-to-believe narrow house

Located in Deerfield, Illinois, the "Skinny House" or "Pie House", as it is known, is a very narrow house indeed. It was built in around 2003 and is only around 1.8 m at the narrowest point. 

6. These narrow buildings in Vietnam have a certain unmistakable charm to them

This row of very narrow shops and apartments in Hanoi, Vietnam are very cute indeed. While they may not be the prettiest buildings, their narrow width gives them a certain charm we think you'll agree.

At only around 8 feet (2. 4m) wide, this narrow house in California was designed specifically to fit into a thin sliver of land.

And finally, this tiny narrow house in Warsaw, Poland, is something of a local landmark. Just slightly larger than it's actual front door, it is amazing to think someone could live inside.
