Alaska Dentist Jailed for Riding Hoverboard While Pulling Tooth and Other Unlawful Conduct

If you pull crazy stunts to draw attention to yourself, you may want to make sure that all your dealings are legal. One Alaskan dentist found that out the hard way.

Seth Lookhart shared a video of him removing a tooth while on a hoverboard that went viral. This eventually drew attention to his many illegal activities and led to his arrest and sentencing of 12 years in prison, reported Alaska's News Source and Gizmodo.

The dentist was convicted of 46 felony and misdemeanor counts in January and his sentencing was announced last Tuesday.

"The State of Alaska announces that yesterday Anchorage Superior Court Judge Michael Wolverton sentenced Dentist Seth Lookhart for defrauding the State of Alaska Medicaid system, Embezzlement, Reckless Endangerment, and the Illegal Practice of Dentistry. Lookhart was sentenced to serve twenty years in jail with eight years suspended, twelve years to serve," said the Alaska Department of Law in a statement.

Lookhart was also placed on probation for 10 years in which he cannot practice dentistry and there is a chance the state may also revoke his license permanently. This is because authorities also discovered that the disgraced dentist was unnecessarily sedating patients to rack up Medicaid charges totaling almost $2 million.

You may be wondering how they came to find all this out? It was because Lookhart shared all his fraudulent activities via text messages.

"Judge Wolverton found Lookhart’s crimes to be “horrendous,” and noted that the “hoverboard video” for which Lookhart is most well-known was not even the most serious aspect of this case. Judge Wolverton found that Lookhart almost killed multiple patients by performing anesthesia thousands of times without proper training and expertise or patient consent, while stealing money from Medicaid and embezzling from his bosses," further stated the Alaska Department of Law statement.

During the court hearing, Lookhart was confronted by the woman in the hoverboard video. According to Ars Technica, she had the following to say to him: “[You] probably could've been a really good dentist. I don't have anything bad to say about taking out my tooth, I appreciate that, but I just think that what you did was outrageous, narcissistic you know, and crazy.”
