The past few months have seen a massive boost for esports with the pandemic and social distancing driving many to get their sports fix from the digital realm.
Lucrative deals were made for the likes of Premier League football players to take each other on at FIFA and NASCAR even replaced canceled races with pro-driven esports races.
Now it seems that Aston Martin wants in on the action: the company has just unveiled a luxury esports racing simulator for the neat sum of $74,000.
Aston Martin says its new simulator, the AMR-C01, "is the perfect choice for those who enjoy the virtual world of competitive Esports and also for dedicated racing drivers who want to hone their skills before their next race."
The simulator's seating position resembles that of the Aston Martin Valkyrie, giving it a "futuristic hypercar feel," Aston Martin explains in a press statement. The setup makes use of the latest Assetto Corsa software.
"This was a challenge for the design team as, although the simulator isn’t a car, it is inspired by our racing cars," said Marek Reichman, Aston Martin Chief Creative Officer.
"It needed to exude the same elegance, boasting the same dynamic lines and balance of proportions as any Aston Martin with a racing lineage," Reichman continued. "I can picture the AMR-C01 in the most beautiful of residences as a sculptural work of art in its own right."
A very limited edition item
Aston Martin plans to sell only 150 of the luxury racing simulator. The British company has listed the product for an eyewatering £57,500, which comes to roughly $74,000.
We're curious to see what the uptake will be: will people be keen to buy a racing simulator for a price that could get you a real-life car to hit the tracks with? The iconic automaker plans to start delivering the ARM-C01 by the end of this year.
