Shelby Rogers

This toothpick puzzle has been floating around the internet for several years, but like all things viral, it recently cycled back into popularity. The objective seems simple: take these four squares and make them into three squares with just three moves.

There are other stipulations for moving these 12 toothpicks (or, if you don't have toothpicks, matches):

One move qualifies as moving a toothpick in any way.

The toothpicks have to remain touching in order for a square to be considered "closed."

You can't break the toothpicks.

Each toothpick has to be a part of a square.

All three squares have to be the same size.
