Crowdfunding Campaign Aims to Send a 'High-Ranking Flat Earther' to Space
Flat earthers are people that continue to believe that the Earth is flat despite all the evidence to the opposite. Their beliefs and actions range from the harmless, such as creating blogs, to the dangerous, such as "Mad Mike” Hughes' dangerous and ultimately deadly mission to prove the world is actually a flat disc by riding his own home-made rocket.
Now, someone has decided to do something about these individual's false beliefs. Marc Gauld, a man from Bucksburn, Scotland has created a GoFundMe campaign that aims to send a flat earther to space. The point is for that individual to see first hand that the Earth is indeed a globe.
"This campaign is to prove to flat earthers once and for all that the earth is round! It currently takes $250,000 to secure a seat on a Virgin Galactic flight to enter the earth's orbit," reads Gauld's campaign. "If flat earthers truly want to prove flat earth then I would expect most donations to come from the flat earther community."
Unfortunately, the campaign so far only raised 175 GBP ($ 242) so far, indicating that the flat earther community is not too keen to travel to space even if it means proving they are right.
Gauld says that once the funds are raised, he will hold an application process for high ranking flat earthers to enter if they wish to be the first flat earthers in space. "One lucky flat earther will be chosen for disappointing the rest of the flat earthers."
"Please get on board with this as it is in the name of science and it will finally disprove or prove the flat earth theory and we can finally put this to rest," adds Gauld.
He also states that he is "100% serious about this" just in case anyone may have thought it was a prank. Good luck Gauld!
