Deaf Brooklyn Man Sues Pornhub for Not Having Enough Subtitles

Yaroslav Suris is suing Pornhub on behalf of all deaf men and women in the world who might be in his situation: being have to watch porn without the subtitles. 

Not many people watch Pornhub with an eye for the plot, however, Suris is apparently one of those people. According to him, it is impossible to enjoy a video like "Hot Step Aunt Babysits Disobedient Nephew" if you can’t hear the dialog and everything else that’s going on.

Apparently, Suris tried watching numerous videos over several months, including “Sexy Cop Gets Witness To Talk” and “Daddy 4K – Allison Comes To Talk About Money To Her Boy's Naughty Father”. However, all of the videos lacked closed captioning. Suris argues that Pornhub violates the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 by not providing service to people who can’t hear or are hard-of-hearing. 

While Pornhub does provide closed caption videos, they are not that many. Suris is seeking money damages, civil penalties, and fines against the porn company. 

This federal lawsuit against Pornhub is the most recent in Suris’ numerous complaints about the lack of closed captions over the last year. He also filed a lawsuit against the New York Post in 2019, stating that the newspaper’s website has videos without closed captioning.

An activist in his own right, Yaroslav Suris is no stranger to courts after all. Nicknamed Software Pirate by the U.S Department of Justice, he apparently infringed the copyrights of expensive software packages by making multiple copies and selling them far below their value in 2002. In return, he was sentenced to fourteen months of home detention and ordered to pay $290,556 in restitution.

Speaking out for the deaf rights and selling software below their value seems to be a past-time hobby for this Brooklyn man. However, it is not clear how this case will play out.
