Elon Musk: White is the New Black for Model 3
White will become the new black – tweets Elon Musk about his sporty Model 3 Tesla.
Starting next month, Tesla will charge $1000 for color black (same price as silver)

How much will a white body cost?
The innovator will now be charging $1,000 extra for black Model 3s while selling white models free of any extra charges.
There are various speculations about the change up in color standards for the model, but the common consensus seems to gravitate around white being a scratch resistant color.
It could also have to do with closer associations to the techy vibe that the Tesla manufacturer is generally going for, say with Mac, which has for some time been associated with a sterile, but friendly, whiteness.
What else is going white?
Musk is not stopping with just white exteriors. Tesla has also put out a clean white interior to match.
Imagine the two together.
Yet, these interiors are currently only made available on the Model X and S. Perhaps, in the near future, as all Tesla vehicles migrate toward a white standard body, they too will find themselves with the option of the plush white interior that is now exclusive to the higher end.
YouTubers are questioning the durability of the interior project, however. Will the pristine white textile really stand the test of time? Could the same question be asked of the supposedly more durable white car body?
Are prices rising?
Is the extra cost for black paint on the Model 3 a general sign of price hikes for Tesla? It doesn’t seem to be as Tesla CEO, Elon Musk claims the new Tesla truck will cost as little a $49,000, making it very competitive with other electric pickup vehicles.
There isn't a whole lot of information about the Tesla pickup out there, but Musk has repeatedly said it's one of his favorite Tesla vehicles. On last month's Ride the Lightning podcast hosted by Ryan McCaffrey, the CEO said the price of the truck will definitely be under $50,000. “You should be able to buy a really great truck for $49k or less,” Musk said.
In a series of tweets from last year, Musk reeled off some of the stats the truck will have. If the rumors are true, the truck will have six seats and 400-500 miles of range per charge. It will be equipped with a dual motor AWD, a 240-volt connection for heavy-duty tools, and up to 300,000 pounds of towing capacity.

The electric truck market will, no doubt, expand in the next few years as electrification of vehicles branches out from family sedans and sports cars.
In January this year, Ford announced plans to make its iconic F-150 truck electric. At a press conference, Ford President, Jim Farley revealed the big news but left fans without a lot of detail.
The F-150 has been the most popular truck in the United States for the last 40 years. The truck is the core of Ford’s business, and it comes in a variety of versions. However, in recent years truck sales have been declining across the nation.
For now, its just the seats and the exterior of the Model 3 that will be white. But who knows, perhaps Musk will decide to make the entire Tesla collection white in the future.
