We have all heard of drive-in cinemas but did you know there are boat cinemas? One Australian company is bringing the experience to select U.S. cities in September and October, reported Fox News.

Beyond Cinema has already hosted its so-called "floating cinema" in Sydney, Australia, both in 2018 and 2019. Now, given the pandemic, the company has adjusted its settings.

The new boat cinemas will feature 12 to 24 mini boats that can each hold eight people.

Customers will have to purchase an entire boat "to ensure that groups will be seated with friends and family only, and to allow for social distancing on and between boats,"  said Beyond Cinema's pre-registration page.

At the time, 16 U.S. cities have been selected by the firm for movies in late summer and fall, including Los Angeles, Denver San Diego, San Francisco, St. Louis, Houston, Chicago, Miami, Orlando, New York, Pittsburgh, Austin, Cleveland, Philadelphia, Columbus, and Cincinnati. Three Canadian cities have also been included: Vancouver, Toronto, and Calgary.

Beyond Cinema has yet to reveal movie selection and pricing. However, the company wrote on its pre-registration page that films will be a mix of golden oldies and new releases that will be announced when tickets go on sale.

The firm further announced that there will be free popcorn for everyone attending while additional snacks and drinks will be available to purchase.

Beyond Cinema is offering a whole new concept for social distancing-safe entertainment. But one has to wonder whether being on the same mini boat really counts as social distancing.

Will the new movie initiative be popular? Or will people not feel safe enough to gather in groups of eight on boats? Time will tell if the floating cinema does well or not. In the meantime, we wish all those trying the boats happy sails.
