That was the accidental case of Barry Fay at his residence in Wellington, Florida. After a neighbor notified Fay there might be a car in his pond after checking out Google Maps. The 50-year-old Floridan would go on to make a shocking discovery.

Worst-case scenario

Now every homeowner has a small fear of coming across something like this on their property. As the story goes, Barry Fay’s neighbor was simply routinely using Google Maps when he noticed something strange in Fay’s pond. Of course, upon hearing the news Fay was a little skeptical and was not too sure what to expect.

So since the neighbor was a drone hobbyist, he decided to take his drone and do a little more exploring at Barry Fay’s request. They did in fact, find a car in the pond and immediately reported it to the authorities.

Police officers then came in to collect the car retrieving a white 1994 Saturn SL with a skeleton in it. Upon investigation by authorities, they later discovered that it was William Moldt, a 40-year-old Florida man who was reported missing in November of 1997.

What the authorities said

The authorities of the area would later go on to describe the incident on Facebook: “Upon arrival, deputies confirmed there was a vehicle in the pond. The vehicle’s exterior was heavily calcified and was obviously in the water for a significant amount of time. Upon removing the vehicle skeleton remains were found inside.”

“On September 10, 2019, the remains were positively identified as William Moldt, who was reported missing on November 8, 1997.” Investigators say it is hard to determine how the body actually got there but they do have a running theory. They believe that Moldt had come home from the nightclub 22 years ago, allegedly drunk, only to completely disappear/ fall into the pond.

However, authorities are still not convinced. “You can’t determine what happened that many years ago, what transpired. All we know is that he went missing off the face of the Earth, and now he’s been discovered,” said authorities to BBC.

This is definitely one of the weirder and more tragic things to come across Google Maps.
