Marvel Comics Icon and Creative Legend Stan Lee Dead at 95

Stan Lee -- writer, editor, and publisher of Marvel Comics -- died at the age of 95, according to news outlet TMZ.

The creative icon worked alongside Jack Kirby and Steve Ditko to establish one of the most impressive comics and later entertainment empires in history. He died early Monday morning at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, according to reports from The Hollywood Reporter. 

Lee either created or co-created Spider-Man, X-Men, the Mighty Thor, the Incredible Hulk, Daredevil, and Black Panther, just to name a few. Disney purchased Marvel for $4 billion in 2009, but despite the purchase, the studio kept Lee involved throughout the creative processes. Nearly all Marvel movies pay homage to Lee’s wit and creativity by including him in cameo appearances.

Lee’s wife Joan died in 2017 after 69 years of marriage. Shortly after her death, Lee sued executives with POW! Entertainment for $1 billion in fraud. However, he dropped the suit a few weeks later. Lee also sued his old business manager and has filed a restraining order against the man charged with handling his $70 million estates. In the summer of 2018, the Los Angeles Police Department released details of an investigation surrounding elder abuse against Lee.
