Millions of Smartphones to Lose WhatsApp Support

WhatsApp users around the world who are have old devices that have outdated software installed won't be able to use the messaging app starting 1 February. 

That's when any iPhones running on iOS 8 or older and any Android phones using 2.3.7 or older will lose support. WhatsApp already shutoff access to Windows devices.

Windows phones already lost support 

"WhatsApp will no longer support Windows Phone operating systems after December 31, 2019, and the app might not be available on the Microsoft Store after July 1, 2019," WhatsApp wrote on its website earlier

The move, which WhatsApp owner Facebook announced earlier in 2019, is designed to ensure the app is secure for users.  The messaging app company warned that after 31 January some functions won't work if the device is running on an outdated OS. 

iPhone users lose out more than Android users 

So what does that mean to the scores of consumers who haven't updated their smartphone and thus their OS in years? If you own the below devices and are a WhatsApp user you are out of luck unless you choose to upgrade.
