New Video by Lyft Driver Reveals Apple Park Underground Parking Lot

Located at 1 Apple Park Way in Cupertino, California, United States, Apple's new $5 billion corporate headquarters, called Apple Park and dubbed “the spaceship,” is an impressive work of architecture. The site consists of one central four-storied circular building of approximately 2,800,000 square feet surrounded by trees and plants and complemented by an artificial pond in the middle.

An impressive parking lot

However, a recent video by a Lyft driver has revealed even the headquarter's parking lot is an impressive feat of design. In this case, it is a work of traffic efficiency monitoring design.

A building that houses thousands of employees and visitors every day would be riddled with traffic issues. But Apple Park’s underground parking seems to be equipped with a complex and well-crafted system of tunnels, turns and LED lights that make navigating the lot a breeze.

The lot even features intersections with actual futuristic horizontal traffic lights. Additionally, the area is drowned in blue-ish and white-ish lights making it even more “spaceship”-like.

Due to Apple Park’s exorbitant size, visitors to the headquarters are provided with the name of their meeting contact, an exact entrance to come in from and a big picture of the site. Due to the confidential work taking place at the headquarters, visits are not easy to obtain.

A home of innovation

Speaking on the Park, Apple CEO Tim Cook said: "Steve's vision for Apple stretched far beyond his time with us. He intended Apple Park to be the home of innovation for generations to come. The workspaces and parklands are designed to inspire our team as well as benefit the environment. We've achieved one of the most energy-efficient buildings in the world, and the campus will run entirely on renewable energy."

Indeed, the new headquarters are a marvel on many fronts. The campus is surrounded by 7,000 trees landscaped by a leading Stanford arborist who even restored the local apricot orchards.

Only glass is used for the inner courtyard and all landscapes facing the exterior of the building offering impressive views. The building is also considered on one of the most energy-efficient in the world.

It is equipped with solar panels on the roof of that can generate 17 megawatts of power that can power up to 75% of the site during peak daytime. This makes the structure one of the biggest solar roofs in the world.

The building is efficiently designed so that air flows freely between the inside and outside producing natural ventilation. Meanwhile, a large fitness center caters to up to 20,000 employees. 

Apple provides 1,000 bikes for employees to use on the many cycling and jogging trails the facility features. An additional 2,000 bicycle parking spaces can also be found in the parking lot.

The exquisite building did, however, have some complaints. Several workers reported being severely injured after walking into the clear glass panes.
