Passengers Take Videos of Two Carnival Cruise Ships Colliding in Mexico

Two cruise ships, the Carnival Glory and Carnival Legend collided Friday morning at a port in Cozumel, Mexico while passengers took videos of the crash. The incident left six people lightly injured.

An allision

“Carnival Glory was maneuvering to dock when it made contact with Carnival Legend which was already alongside,” the company said in a statement. “We are assessing the damage but there are no issues that impact the seaworthiness of either ship.”

The firm further described the crash as an allision between the two ships, a nautical term that refers to a situation when a moving ship collides with a stationary object. The ships' itineraries, however, were not changed as the damage was not deemed serious enough to warrant any cancellations.

A minor incident

Passengers described the incident as minor. "The crash wasn't too bad," Carnival Legend passenger Mary Anne McKinley told CNN. "Just felt like a big wave crashing into the ship."

"Last night we experienced some major motion on the boat so this morning we assumed something similar was happening," passenger Maddison Haynes also told CNN. "We felt a jolt and didn't really think anything of it."
