Who's excited about the upcoming Qatar 2022 World Cup? Though two years away, the world is already in the process of laying the foundations for the upcoming sports event.

One of the most exciting build-up moments usually centers around the unveiling of the upcoming state-of-the-art sports stadiums.

However, the first unveiling of a major soccer stadium seems to have caught the world's attention for all the wrong reasons.

Call it a collective immaturity level, but the Al Wakrah stadium, which will host matches up to the quarter-finals and contains innovative cooling technology, has been dubbed by many across the internet as the " Vagina stadium" shape for its unique curves and upper openings.

The Vagina Arena

Designed by the late great British-Iraqi architect, Dame Zaha Hadid, this is not the first time that the designs drew these vagina comparisons.

In fact, when Hadid's plans were first released in 2013, Hadid was furious stating, "It’s really embarrassing they come up with nonsense stuff like this. What are they saying? Everything with a hole in it is a vagina? That’s ridiculous."

The designs of the Al Wakrah stadium take its inspiration from the flowing shape of a dhow boat, a traditional Arabian pearl diving, and fishing vessel.

However, that has not prevented the internet from doing what they do best, relentlessly berating the design of the Qatar stadium, with no lack of ball jokes.

First preparations of the Al Wakrah started in 2014, but it took until 2016 for proper foundation work to commence. The symmetrical roof is composed of three shells, creating its standout features.

The soccer stadium will have a capacity of roughly 40,000 seats and will be scaled down to 20,000 seats after the World Cup is finished.
