Most budget airlines have incredibly strict rules about what you can take onboard and won’t hesitate to slug you with a fine if you edge over the weight limit.

Savvy travelers want to be able to take all of their luggage onboard with them in a carry-on case to avoid paying extra for checked luggage. But this onboard luggage needs to be able to squeeze into those impossibly small boxes at the gate and remain under ten kilograms. So what to do? One option is trying out the growing market of ‘lifehack’ luggage.

Luggage that makes travel a pleasure

Designers all over the world are reinventing luggage to keep up with the changed conditions of travel. One design firm attempting to reinvent the wheel is Solgaard. This design team has developed a range of luggage alternatives that fit with the modern way of working and traveling. The most impressive of this range is the Lifepack carry-on suitcase.

The bag takes cues from your closet, where clothes are stored in a vertical fashion with a sense of hierarchy, and applies that thinking to a suitcase. The Lifepack suitcase is packed in a fairly typical way into small compartments within the suitcase limitations, but its cutting-edge design is revealed when you open your bag at your destination.

The entire contents of your suitcase can be lifted up into a vertical shelving system. It allows you to see everything that you packed at eye level in the light. More often than not a regular suitcase means you have to spend time digging through a dark tight space to find a clean t-shirt. But the expanding shelf system of the Lifepack means all your clothes are easy to see and access.

The bag is created from a hard plastic shell that can withstand the grind of regular travel sites of 4 wheels for smooth transition through airports, streets, and lobbies. It has a two-step telescopic handle and a TSA approved locking system. Of course, it is also designed to comply with the standard airline carry on requirements.

The Lifepack is designed by Adrian Solgaard. “I have been living out of a carry-on for the past eight months in order to perfect the design of the Lifepack Carry-On-Closet,” said Solgaard. “In today’s fast-paced society we saw the need for a quick way to organize and find items in your suitcase. Whether you are taking a weekend getaway, or you’re traveling frequently for business, I see this making a positive impact on people’s lives.”
