When we think of electric vehicles, clean transportation is one of the first things that come to mind, right? New York-based Tarform Motorcycles also seem to think so because they are making their motorcycles out of biodegradable and recycled elements.

As their website says, this motorcycle is "Reinventing what is outdated and keeping what is proven." The makers of Tarform Luna aim to revolutionize eco-friendly transportation. The motorcycle will be quite modular compared to its market alternatives both in terms of software and hardware.

The motorcycle will get online updates to improve functionality after its launch and the modular design is a whole another thing in itself. The design of this environment-conscious motorbike starts at a $24,000 price tag.

The company has three key principles: design for change, intelligence, respect for nature. Let's go over each of them to clarify what they mean by these statements. Design for change comes at play with their modular design choice, both the functionality and its looks can be altered after the purchase. Both the battery pack and the bodyworks are made with upgradability in mind.

The customer will be able to install better batteries as they come into the market and play with their motorbike's appearance if they wish to do so. The next principle, intelligence, comes into play to make for a safer motorcycle driving experience, for example, there are sensors on the motorbike that warn the rider about dangers that lurk in their blindspots through vibrations coming from the seat.

The last principle, respect for nature, has to do with the manufacturing of the bikes. Most of Luna's components are bio-based and recyclable, they provide high performance while not compromising the environmental safety.

Bodyworks of the bicycle are made of flaxseed fibers that reinforce the panels. The paint is derived from algae pigments mixed with iron-based metallic pigments, eliminating the need for industrial paints and primers. And the bio-based resin also eliminates the need for petrochemicals.

The leathery parts of the bike are also all biodegradable and vegan, they are experimenting with kombucha and pineapple currently. The founder, Kravtchouk, once said “Send it back to us, and we’ll recycle it,” for the worn-out parts.
