This 'Magical' Harry Potter Mask Reveals Marauder's Map When You Breathe

Harry Potter lovers unite: Colorado-based Potterhead Stefanie Hook has designed a mask from scratch that first appears to be a simple black face mask, but changes color and reveals the Marauder's Map as the wearer breathes.

The TikTok video where she showcases her spellbinding mask has become viral, accumulating over 2 million views.

If you've watched Harry Potter at any point in your lifetime, watching Marauder's Map reveal itself as Hedwig's Theme plays in the background will bring back so many memories.

You might be hoping it is magic, but it is simply science. When the mask reaches a temperature of 82 degrees, it reveals the Marauder's Map, so don't be surprised when you can't see Hogwarts students walking around on it. 

Amid the coronavirus pandemic, we've seen many examples of people revamping face masks, such as this university student who created special face masks for the hearing impaired or MIT students who developed a face mask that could light up when detected COVID-19.

Hook's face masks are not medical-grade like theirs, but they are made according to the Center For Disease Control and Prevention's sewing instructions with licensed cotton fabric, elastic, and color-changing pigment. 

Can't be worn instead of N95, but still pretty magical

While it won't replace an N95 or surgical masks, it still works its magic. Hook started making the masks as a way to "bring magic" into the real world and to inspire others to get creative, Bored Panda reports.

From cutting the fabric to sewing a sing mask together, the process of making a mask takes her 17 hours. As of now, her masks are completely sold out; however, Hooks will restock them on her website, May 29.

"I feel like the world can be magical and that we are not limited by the boundaries of our reality," Hook says. "I will continue to push those boundaries in hopes of inspiring others and brightening people’s days."

So, can we now say, "Accio face mask"?
