Spider-Man, Spider-Man! Does whatever a spider can! Why? Because he was bitten by a spider, of course.

We've all heard the song and seen the movie but as adults, it is easy for us to separate fact from fiction. Unfortunately, the same doesn't apply to children.

Three boys from Bolivia provoked a deadly black widow spider until it bit them in order to gain Spider-Man's powers, reported Telemundo. Of course, instead of super strength, they ended up in the hospital.

The Bolivian official in charge of the case, Virgilio Pietro, explained how the three boys repeatedly disturbed a black widow spider with a stick until it bit each one of them. Not only did they not gain superpowers, but they were in so much pain that their mother found them crying.

After visiting a nearby health center, the brothers were soon transferred to a hospital. They suffered from fevers, tremors, and muscle pains. The kids were released from the Children's Hospital in La Paz a week after being bitten.

In the meantime, Pietro issued a stark warning during his Telemundo briefing. "For children, everything is real, movies are real," said the official.

According to Jo-Anne Nina Sewlal, an arachnologist at the University of the West Indies in Trinidad, "Bites from this spider very rarely result in death. However, individuals at risk include the very young, very old, and sick."

"The effects of a bite by a member of this genus depend on the species, but effects can include nausea, profuse sweating, severe pain in abdomen and back, muscle aches, hypertension and paralysis of the diaphragm, which can cause difficulty in breathing," Sewlal said.

The initial pain may last from eight to 12 hours, while other symptoms may continue for several days. We are glad the boys are okay and wish them all a speedy recovery.
