Tree-Inspired "Vertiport" Will Recharge Its Air Taxis With Clean Energy

Chinese air mobility company EHang has revealed plans for a “vertiport” in Italy designed by the Giancarlo Zema Design Group, Yanko Design reported. The vertiport will be called Baobab and will be completely sustainable, producing clean energy to recharge the drones wirelessly.
This is not just wishful thinking. EHang has already engineered an eVTOL (electric vertical takeoff and landing) vehicle which will be capable of carrying up to two passengers. The firm has delivered 40 of these models to customers for testing and demonstration purposes.
The vertiport, therefore, seemed like the next logical step for EHang. The design of the new port is based on the African Baobab tree and it is a 98-ft-tall (30-meter) tower that will be constructed from steel and laminated wood.
Passengers wishing to use an air taxi will simply take an elevator up to the main platform. The vertiport will also provide a waiting room and a panoramic restaurant that will offer a 360-degree view of the beautiful surrounding landscape.
Air taxis will be charged by the construction's many photovoltaic panels that will generate over 300 kilowatts of power per day. Vehicles will be recharged wirelessly directly from the landing pad floor.
The roof will also feature green areas for waiting and LED lights for nighttime lighting and signage. Every part of the Baobab vertiport will run on clean energy making it a truly green and sustainable construction.
Before we get too excited, it should be noted that the exact location of the vertiport is not yet announced. We will definitely be following up on this project though.
