Turkey Innovation Week Kicks off Today

Turkey Innovation Week brings the latest insight into innovation to Istanbul.

ISTANBUL -- Turkey Innovation Week 2019, organized by the Turkish Exporters' Assembly (TIM) under the coordination of the Trade Ministry, is a festivity of innovation taking over the beautiful city of Istanbul on May 3 to 4. 

Since 2012, the conference has been spreading innovation and culture not only in Turkey but also around the world. The event is a great contribution to the progress of the innovation concept in Turkey. For this, it attracts thousands of visitors including entrepreneurs, investors, academics, students, and media representatives.

The Turkish Exporters' Assembly represents 61 Exporter Associations, 27 exporter sectors, and 85,000 exporters that carry on business in the regional and sectoral base at both national and international levels.

President of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdoğan is expected for the official opening ceremony at the Harbiye Auditorium Main Stage. Keynote speakers include former President of Estonia (2006-2016) Toomas Hendrik Ilves who will open the event speaking about Building a Digital Country. 

Toomas Ilves is globally recognized for making Estonia one of the most digitally advanced nations in the world with a model of digital governance, government e-services, e-voting, e-banking, e-healthcare, education, and transportation. As a result, Estonia became the first paperless government in the world.   

Chris Barton, Co-Founder and former Board Director of Shazam, brings his expertise in mobile applications to the stage. He co-founded Shazam 18 years ago in London, England and sold it to Apple in 2017 for an estimated $400 million.

The event will also welcome Gibson Bidle, Former Vice President of Product Management of Netflix, and Chief Product Officer of Chegg, Istanbul-born Refik Anadol, Media Artist and Director currently based in Los Angeles, California who has received numerous awards including Microsoft Research Best Vision Award and Google's Art and Machine Intelligence Artist Residency Award.  

Kevin J. Debruin, NASA former Rocket Scientist is going to be giving his keynote on Saturday followed by a panel discussion integrated by Halit Mirahmetoglu, TRC & Space Agenda Founder and Dr. Umut Yildiz, Astrophysicist. 

The program is going to be packed with great keynote speakers and panel discussions. Topics will include Life-Touching Innovation, Innovation, and Future in Turkey, Sustainable Economy with Econnovation, Digital Transformation to Production Transformation: New Horizons in Industry, What is Happening in Space?, New Route of Export: Price Competition to Information Competition, and Innovation in Finance: Fintech and Blockchain Technologies.

In addition to high-level executives, the event will also welcome Trade Minister Ruhsar Pekcan, Family, Labor and Social Services Minister Zehra Zümrüt Selçuk, and Defense Industry President İsmail Demir.

The event will close on Saturday with Samsung Innovators of the Future Science Contest Awards Ceremony
