Yahoo Answers Says Goodbye After 16 Years of Formidable Questions
"Do you think humans will ever walk on the sun?". "Well, if they do, it would have to be a night." Ah, the wonders you'll find on Yahoo Answers.
Alas, this sublime cesspool of bizarre and comical content will officially be shutting down come May 4. The legendary internet page recently shared a statement that it would be halting its question-and-answer platform after 16 years of service — accepting final questions and answers on April 20.
After the May 4 end date, users will be redirected to Yahoo's homepage. Per Yahoo Answers' FAQ page, users can request to download old data before June 30, which includes previous questions and answers.
Once requested, users will receive their downloaded data within 30 days. All the relevant information is available on Yahoo Answers' FAQ page.
Set up as a simple question-and-answer site, Yahoo Answers' users can ask any question they desire, and other users respond. From the vaguely useful to the utterly useless, a bit of everything has made an appearance on the site.
Given the site's age, it's easy to understand how it was a success in its heyday. Remember the days before social media? Ya, we barely do either.
As the site explained in its own words in a statement that was shared on Reddit "We launched Yahoo Answers sixteen years ago to help people around the world connect and share information. With you and millions of other users, we built the best place on the web to ask and answer questions on a variety of topics, creating a community of global knowledge sharing."
"While Yahoo Answers was once a key part of Yahoo's products and services, it has become less popular over the years as the needs of our members have changed."
What a trip it's been, Yahoo Answers. To adequately commemorate this legendary platform, nostalgic users have been posting their favorite question-and-answer duos on social media, and they're enough to make you snort with laughter.
I don't think people realise the extent of rich, pure culture that will be lost in closing Yahoo Answers. pic.twitter.com/AehYCjoOQO
