Are you ready to engineer your childhood dreams? Khan Academy and Pixar have teamed up with Walt Disney Imagineers to create "Imagineering in a Box", which is a free online course that provides an exclusive look into the theme park design.
It is true that times are trying, and the majority of us have to stay indoors to save the world which is not exactly a Disney script material. However, that shouldn't stop you from dreaming about your ideal roller coaster.
But dreaming is relatively easy. Just how do you build a roller coaster? Now, kids, families, and curious engineers can watch the 32 new videos available to learn what it takes to build theme park attractions.
Josh Gorin, a creative development executive at Walt Disney Imagineering, wrote on the Disney website, "With so many families at home together right now, we thought this would be an especially useful time to share this program with you. It’s available to all and completely free."
This program is the perfect opportunity for STEM home-learning. He adds, "We are so excited to share with learners of all ages the unique ways that science, technology, engineering, and math can be combined with creativity and design to create larger-than-life entertainment for millions all around the world."
The course comes in three topics: "Creating worlds", "Designing attractions", and "Bringing characters to life".
Each section has an actual Imagineer explaining how they apply their craft masterfully to make their dreams a reality. After watching the videos, course-takers are invited to imagine their own attractions, characters, and create new environments.
The lessons can be found on Khan Academy and are free to everyone online, with teaching resources also included. You can wish upon a star, and share your designs with #Disney, #BetterTogether, and #ImagineeringinaBox on Instagram and tag @WaltDisneyImagineering for a chance to be featured.
