Dog Owner Builds Stairlift to Help Her Elderly Pugs Climb the Stairs Easier

The stairlift was meant for the rescue with a torn knee ligament, but needless to say, everyone enjoyed it.

When it comes to animals, all pieces of engineering become perfect examples of wholesome engineering and suffice to say, we have no complaints. Sonya Karimi from New Orleans built a mini wooden stairlift for her elderly rescue dogs, what she calls a "Doggie-vator", and it might be the cutest thing you will see today.

The video she shared of her pugs sharing a ride upstairs has become quickly viral, with numerous people praising her for her selfless DIY project.

We can definitely say that the pups, 10-year-old Bodhi, 4-year-old Emery, 13-year-old George, and 10-year-old Sam, were enjoying the ride.

One of the rescues had a torn knee ligament

Apparently, the idea came to her after adopting Bodhi, who had a torn knee ligament which made it pretty hard for it to take the stairs.

Sonya, being an occupational therapist herself, explained her thought process to Daily Mail, "At work, I’ve seen how helpful stairlifts are to people so I was surprised there wasn’t anything similar for dogs with all the different products that are available for pets nowadays. So I thought that we might be able to create something ourselves for our dogs to use."

A wooden "Doggie-vator"

Once she had the idea of what needed to be done, she built the wooden "Doggie-vator" with the help of her fiance Zach and his parents in three months.

While it was made for the elders, 4-year-old Emery was absolutely smitten with the project too. Apparently, they didn't even need to be told twice on how to use it.

Dogs loved it — even the young one

"They’ve adapted to it so quickly, I thought I’d have to train them for a while to get used to it but they just get on it as if they’ve had it for years! The two older pugs love it especially – they won’t use the stairs, they will sit there and wait until the ride is ready for them and it’s so cute," Sonya said.
