Extremely rare 1964 Ferrari 275 GTB/C Speciale is up for auction

Ferrari cars always sell well at auctions and last year a 1967 Ferrari 275 NART Spider went for the record sum of US$27.5 million. Now there is another extremely rare Ferrari being put up for auction - the 1964 Ferrari 275 GTB/C Speciale. It is one of only three that were ever made. Anyone who has deep pockets and a fondness for collector’s cars may want to head to RM Auctions in California on 15 August.

The 275 was hand built and features bodywork of lightweight aluminium and Tipo 563 chassis. It was the follow on to the Ferrari 250 GTO and the Speciale was given the V12 3.3 litre engine with six Weber carburettors. The 275 offers 320hp thanks to the 5 speed manual transaxle gearbox, this works alongside the four-wheel independent suspension and features disc brakes on all corners.

The 1964 Ferrari 275 GTB/C Speciale has a paint job of two-tone grey, with the long nosed car being produced with the FIA homologation and factory development. It features other revisions to the body, such as it having extra vents towards the nose of the car and vents located diagonally which are situated behind the wheels at the back. The car didn’t manage to get approval for FIA racing, however one of the three cars did take part in the 1965 24 Hours of Le Mans, where it managed to take third place overall.

There are only two more versions of the 1964 Ferrari 275 GTB/C Speciale in the world and RM Auctions said it was doubtful whether these two would ever be offered for sale in auction. Out of the other two one finished Le Mans with the best finishing record from a front engine racing car and the car has been untouched since.
