You may have witnessed unique buildings of Apple Stores all around the world, but this one built in Singapore is a little more different than the others. Apple Marina Bay Sands' store design is a shimmering sphere that floats on water. The newest Apple store has already started greeting its visitors this morning, September 10th.
148 employees, 23 languages
The store, located in Marina Bay Sands, is already the apple of the bay's eye with a 360-degree panoramic view of the city. It's almost impossible not to get distracted by the panoramic views of Marina Bay. The new store matches the radiant buildings and skyscrapers that surround it, creating an even more spectacular view at night.
The store is covered by glass with 10 narrow vertical mullions that hold the dome structure together. Don't be fooled by the way it looks small in comparison with the giant buildings around. It is quite spacious and can host 148 employees at once. The store also operates in over 23 languages to provide better service for the customers.
“We couldn’t be more excited to open the breathtaking Apple Marina Bay Sands in Singapore, building on our commitment to this special place that began more than 40 years ago,” explained Deirdre O’Brien, Apple’s senior vice president of Retail + People. “Our passionate and talented team is ready to welcome this community to our new store and deliver the care and support that our customers around the world love," she continued.
What's behind the new design?
The inspiration for the new design rises from the Pantheon in Rome, with sunbeams shining down through the oculus at the top. The interior glass is covered by custom baffles that let the sun rays in between the lines. Its purpose is to present a nighttime lightning effect.
Now the area, mostly, might be a bit of a concrete jungle but Apple didn't forget to intersperse some green among it. You'll actually come across trees inside.
Apple's first corporate office was located in Ang Mo Kio, Singapore in 1981, and the production of printed circuit boards for Apple II computers was assigned to the team out there. It's been over 40 years that Apple kept its connection with the country, and looks like it will continue to do so for at least 40 years more.
