Larry Page and Sergey Brin created Google 21 years ago as a school project and, it has been the biggest search engine since then. The co-founders of Google established Alphabet Inc. in 2015, and it became the parent company of Google and many of its subsidiaries.
Since 2015, Larry Page was the chief executive officer of Alphabet and Sergey Brin was the president of the company, until they published a blog post on December 3, saying that they're stepping down from their roles and the current CEO of Google, Sundar Pichai will also be the CEO of Alphabet from now on.
However, it doesn't mean that Page and Brin will move to a seaside town and bring all the work behind them. In the blog post they shared, they said, "We are deeply committed to Google and Alphabet for the long term, and will remain actively involved as Board members, shareholders, and co-founders. In addition, we plan to continue talking with Sundar regularly, especially on topics we’re passionate about!"
As of December 2019, Larry Page and Sergey Brin stand as the 7th and the 10th richest people in the world with the net worth of 62.7 billion dollars and 60.9 billion dollars, respectively.
The duo also wrote in the letter, "We’ve never been ones to hold on to management roles when we think there’s a better way to run the company. And Alphabet and Google no longer need two CEOs and a President. Going forward, Sundar will be the CEO of both Google and Alphabet. He will be the executive responsible and accountable for leading Google, and managing Alphabet’s investment in our portfolio of Other Bets,"
And they continued, "Sundar brings humility and a deep passion for technology to our users, partners and our employees every day. He’s worked closely with us for 15 years, through the formation of Alphabet, as CEO of Google, and a member of the Alphabet Board of Directors.
He shares our confidence in the value of the Alphabet structure, and the ability it provides us to tackle big challenges through technology. There is no one that we have relied on more since Alphabet was founded, and no better person to lead Google and Alphabet into the future."
As said above, Google has been the leader among search engines, and it seems like with other innovative projects of Google and Alphabet, such as the driverless car project Waymo or the smartphone Pixel, and with the new Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai, who's also been the CEO of Google since 2015, the companies are getting ready for a brighter and more innovative future.
