Find Out Which COVID-19 Strains Are in Your State With This Map

Since their discoveries in the past weeks, multiple new strains of SARS-CoV-2, the coronavirus that causes COVID-19, have made their way into other parts of the world with an unrelenting speed.

As the vaccinations across the countries continue, countries are trying to keep some of the notable strains, most particularly those discovered in the United Kingdom, South Africa, under control.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has released an interactive map in which the people can see which strains are in their states.

State-by-state breakdown of the three strains

The CDC is tracking the new variants closely, and the data will be shown clearly on the interactive map and tables. As of now, the website includes a state-by-state breakdown of the three most notable strains: B.1.1.7 from the U.K., B.1.351 from South Africa, P.1 from  Brazil.

Through the variant tracker, it can be seen that the identified case counts of the said variants are relatively low in the states they’ve been detected in, with only California and Florida having more than 100, as of this writing. However, the CDC states that these numbers are based on identified positive cases, so they cannot possibly be counted as the number of true cases. However, according to the health protection agency, they are already working on more reliable tracking measures.

On the bright side, vaccines are likely to offer some sort of protection against the variants, with, in one example, BioNTech previously stating they are confident that its vaccine is likely to work on the U.K. variant.
