Mechanic and DIY enthusiast Rich Benoit is known for his YouTube channel Rich Rebuilds popular among Tesla lovers due to his Model S and X restoration demonstration videos. Now, the self-proclaimed car guru has taken yet another ambitious project under his wings breathing new life into damaged Tesla car parts.

Re-purposing discarded Tesla parts

His latest DIY project aims to create a Tesla battery trailer out of the firm's discarded battery packs. When it comes to repairing Tesla cars, the process can prove quite challenging as the company does not permit the sale of parts for customization.

It is no secret that Tesla is quite particular about its reputation. However, Benoit has found a loophole around this strict policy, and he now believes that he can bring damaged and abandoned Tesla cars back to life.

The YouTuber has forever been fascinated with Tesla's Model S vehicles. The first time he went for a spin in one of these cars, he fell in love with their sheer power and has been obsessed with their mechanics ever since.

His passion for these rather expensive electric models inspired him to come up with the brilliant idea of using good old DIY magic to revive discarded cars and flooded battery packs.

Vice Media's Motherboard channel posted an all-inclusive documentary of Benoit’s story where the electric car enthusiast can be seen boasting about giving damaged Tesla parts new life. For all DIY enthusiasts, this latest battery pack project is a dream come true.

Benoit considers himself to be a self-taught creative genius who learned all the ins and outs of the Model S version of Tesla by himself. He has made it possible for all Tesla lovers to buy customized recycled and restored Tesla-like cars without having to go through the tedious and pricey process of buying one from a Tesla-certified showroom.

Rescuing a Tesla from Hurricane Harvey

One of Benoit's current projects is an endeavor to restore a Tesla that was the unfortunate victim of last year’s Hurricane Harvey. This model was found at the bottom of the floodwaters after being submerged there for ten days.

The water did more than its share of damage to the vehicle which is why it has proven to be a significant challenge for Benoit. This is why he decided to take a much-needed break from this difficult project and work on showcasing his very first DIY Tesla trailer.

Benoit is an excellent example of how a little bit of resourcefulness and creativity can convert a piece of scrap into a much-cherished much-coveted possession. "People are going crazy for this thing and want to see more of it," says Benoit in his video.

And we agree! With such ingenious ideas coming from the restorer, we cannot wait to see what he dreams up next.
