Elon Musk Says Tesla Will Have Level 5 of Autonomous Driving Figured Out This Year

With numerous milestones in its belt, Tesla is on its way to even better ones.
Tesla CEO Elon Musk stated Tesla is "very close" to achieving level 5 autonomous driving technology, on Thursday, Reuters reports. Level 5 refers to the capability to navigate roads without any driver input.

Musk says the basic functionality for level 5 autonomy will be complete this year
Musk brought the news during a video message at the opening of Shanghai's annual World Artificial Intelligence Conference in China. He stated, "I'm extremely confident that level 5 or essentially complete autonomy will happen and I think will happen very quickly."
"I remain confident that we will have the basic functionality for level 5 autonomy complete this year."
The automotive engineers define five levels of autonomous driving from Level 1 to Level 5, and while Level 1 is parking assistance, the last level means the driver doesn't have to do anything in all driving conditions.
Tesla has solved most of the essential challenges
Musk also stated that Tesla has solved most of the essential challenges that stand in the way of full autonomy. Tesla currently builds cars with an Autopilot driver-assistance system, and getting driver out of the equation was first expressed in 2019, so we can say Tesla is not wasting any time.
Tesla and numerous other companies such as Alphabet Inc.'s Waymo and General Motors Co.'s Cruice are competing to manufacture the first 100% driverless car.
Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, where we have seen a surge of interest in robot drivers and robot everything, such technologies are picking speed. Time will show if Elon Musk's bold statement will hold true.
