Facebook's Tinder-like Dating Feature Launches in the U.S. with Instagram Integration

Facebook has just rolled out its new dating feature in the U.S. in a continued bid to get past the recent scandals. The question is, do we really want them collecting more of our data — and on our love lives, no less?
Facebook's incredible wealth of information on people promises to enable better matching than rival companies like Tinder, Bumble, or OkCupid, the company argues.

IG integration and "secret crushes"
In Facebook's post on the dating feature rollout, the social media giant announced that it would include Instagram integration.
The company said, "we’re giving people the ability to integrate their Instagram posts directly into their Facebook Dating profile and giving people the ability to add Instagram followers to their Secret Crush lists, in addition to Facebook friends."
By the end of the year, Facebook says they will also make it possible to add Instagram and FB Stories to dating profiles.
Facebook Dating's "privacy" measures
As per Facebook's post, people that appear on a user's Facebook Dating feature will not include their Facebook friends.
Users can also opt to have Facebook Dating not show people who have friends in common.
What's more, for those anxiously looking to make sure their ex's profile never appears on the feature, they can block profiles from appearing on Facebook Dating.
With the new Instagram integration, only photos will be shown. User's Instagram handles will be hidden within the feature for increased privacy.
The “Secret Crush” feature allows users to select crushes, which will only become a match if the other user also selects you as a crush. Users are limited to nine “crushes,” to prevent users from selecting all of their friends to see who has a crush on them.
As TechCrunch reports, Facebook officially claims its match suggestions are based on “preferences, interests, and other things [users] do on Facebook.” However, when pressed further, Nathan Sharp, the Product Lead for Facebook Dating, said he couldn't discuss the details of the system.
In addition to the U.S. market for Facebook Dating, the feature is also available in 19 other countries. The company says Facebook Dating will be released in Europe by early 2020.
