From Now On U.S. Space Force Troops Will Be Called 'Guardians'
On Friday, December 18, Vice President Mike Pence announced at a gathering at the White House that the U.S. Space Force troops will now be called the Guardians, reported The Drive. In attendance was Space Force head General John Raymond, Secretary of the Air Force Barbara Barrett, and Acting Secretary of Defense Chris Miller.

The service will also have a new motto, Semper Supra, or Always Above. How fitting!
Hundreds of submissions
"Today, after a yearlong process that produced hundreds of submissions and research involving space professionals and members of the general public, we can finally share with you the name by which we will be known: Guardians," a Twitter post from the Space Force read. "The name Guardians connects our proud heritage and culture to the important mission we execute 24/7, protecting the people and interest of the U.S. and its allies."
"Guardians is a name with a long history in space operations, tracing back to the original command motto of Air Force Space Command in 1983, 'Guardians of the High Frontier,'" said the new Guardians Space Force.
The announcement comes just a mere two days before the first anniversary of the service's founding on December 20 and we can't wait to see all the Guardians of the Galaxy memes that will follow!

Standing out
The Guardians will now have the honorable distinction of joining the U.S. Navy's Sailors, the U.S. Air Force's Airmen, the U.S. Army's Soldiers, and the U.S. Marine Corps' Marines. However, make no mistake about it, the Guardians will stand out with their own unique designations, insignia, and uniform devices including lapel pins.
“These Space Force lapel pins will identify you as Space Professionals when you’re in your Air Force service dress uniform until we’re able to release our own Space Force uniform,” Chief Master Sgt. Roger A. Towberman, senior enlisted advisor, U.S. Space Force said at the time of their issuance a few days before the Guardians moniker was announced. Now, we just can't wait for the new uniforms.
