Google's New PAIR Project Hopes to Humanize Artificial Intelligence

To ensure an AI-friendly future, Google is pushing the boundaries of machine learning technology with a deeper focus on the "human side". The tech giant is calling their new initiative PAIR or People + AI Research. The open-source research initiative is specifically targeting the improvement of machine learning systems for AI engineers.

What exactly is PAIR and how will it improve the future of AI
Despite the presence of artificial intelligence in the academic world, research workplace, and other industrial sectors, not a lot of people are actually in tune with the technology. Google's latest PAIR project aims to refine the coexistence of humans and artificial intelligence. The technological giant is prioritizing the "human side" of AI.
In particular, PAIR is targeting the Engineering and Research industries as artificial intelligence is, after all, built by humans. Google's research project wants to discover how they can make it less difficult for engineers to build and understand machine learning systems. Determining the relevant learning materials and working tools engineers require to design and build AI systems is one of the fundamental objectives of the PAIR project.
PAIR will also delve deep into ways on how artificial intelligence could aid and support the vast arena of industrial sectors such as medicine, design, agriculture, music, and more as the presence of machine learning systems in the workplace is becoming more common.
Google's research initiative won't just focus on improving artificial intelligence for professionals. The research initiative wants to bring AI to everyone, an approach aimed to generate new ideas on how machine learning systems can be used in other aspects of life.

Open-source tools are available for AI engineers
AI engineers can benefit the most with Google's latest research project as they have made available two visualization tools called Facets Overview and Facets Dive. The applications tackle the initial steps of machine learning process, which will help engineers comprehend the models they are building and ultimately result into a more refined machine learning system.
Academic and external collaborations
Developments in AI technologies are currently being explored by many academic branches and other research groups. And Google is acknowledging this thriving community as they have partnered up with academics from world-leading institutions such as Harvard and MIT. The tech giant expressed how positive they are with their new research project.
"Focusing on the human element in AI brings new possibilities into view. We're excited to work together to invent and explore what's possible".
Ultimately, Google aims to invent novel artificially intelligent technologies that will harmonize with human intelligence in order to ensure a smooth integration of AI into our future.
