Drones are all the rage today and although they carry pretty advanced technology, yet if there is one area where they fail, it's undoubtedly battery power. Most drones will fly for half an hour and then require one or two hours to recharge.

Now, Israeli firm StoreDot is promising new technology that allows for a full recharge to occur in just five minutes. Yes! You read that right: five minutes.

The technology is called FlashBattery and it is undoubtedly a game-changer.

StoreDot CEO Dr. Doron Myersdorf said "Drones will now be able to spend much more of their valuable flight time engaged in actual missions, greatly extending their range, rather than having to return to base to have their battery swapped out," New Atlas.

"At the same time, UFC [ultra-fast charging] will also enable drone users to expand their operations into regions they could not previously access."

Myersdorf added that the combination of these factors will significantly increase operational efficiencies and profitability. This will result in a more appealing business case for drone use.

StoreDot's ultra-fast pioneering technologies have garnered the company quite some positive attention. The firm was named as a 2020 Bloomberg New Energy Finance (BNEF) Pioneers Winner.

Of course, the nomination was for the firm's new-generation lithium-ion battery technology that is capable of recharging an electric vehicle in five minutes, a battery introduced three years ago.

Regardless, the award indicates that StoreDot's technology is eco friendly in addition to being super fast. But, how does this work?

FlashBatteries consist of chemically synthesized peptide molecules known as nanodots. These nanodots are transformed into a multi-function electrode that offers super capacitor-style super-speedy charging with a slow discharge.

The advanced battery is also made of bio-organic raw materials that are eco friendly, naturally abundant, and pretty cheap. Speedy and environmentally friendly? We are sold!
