What is Petoi Bittle?
Petoi Bittle is an innovative palm-sized robotic dog designed for play and STEM education. While small, Petoi Bittle is a quite capable robotic pet.
It measures eight inches (20 cm) and weighs less than 10 ounces (280 grams). However, this small robot can also carry a payload of 16 ounces (450 grams) under its belly.
It can play tricks like real animals and has been fine-tuned to have incredible maneuverability for such a small robot. Its assembly is straightforward and the robot comes with plenty of demo modes from GitHub to get you started when purchasing the robot.

With some extra programming and calibration, the robot can run faster than two body lengths per second.
According to the manufacturer, "Bittle makes a perfect tool for learning, teaching, researching, or a surprising gift to impress your family and friends."

Previously in its prototype stage, Petoi Bittle could be 3D printed and assembled with ease by following its handy tutorial. However, to get the best results, the creator adopted injection molding for added strength and quality, as well as mass-producibility.

Powered by Arduino, Petoi Bittle is very customizable, too. For example, you can boost its intelligence by mounting a Raspberry Pi or other AI chip to the robot.
Originating from the OpenCat project started in 2016, Petoi launched the Nybble cat on Indiegogo back in 2018. As their second product, Petoi Bittle has a huge community where you can get hands-on tutorials and project ideas for using it. If you are up to the challenge, you can also teach the robot new skills to win prizes on its community challenges.

Marketed as a grassroots robotic pet solution, the robot is designed to be simple to use as well as incredibly affordable and customizable.
While it might sound like a toy, Bittle is not recommended as a toy for small children. Parental guidance is recommended if you do want to explore Petoi Bittle with your little ones.
Petoi Bittle is currently on Kickstarter and has raised, at the time of writing, over $380,000 of its $50,000 target. There are only two weeks left before the campaign period ends!
How much is a robotic dog?

For that price, you get a smart and capable robotic canine; however, there are other more "reasonably" priced robot dogs out there, too. Depending on what you are looking for and your budget, prices range from somewhere in the range of $40 to a couple of hundred bucks.
