Microsoft Revisits Ancient Times, Unveils the New Nokia 216

Interesting Engineering

New phones are slim, sleek, fast, and extremely powerful. However, with the constant constraint of an incredibly short battery life, they are anything but wireless as they remain constantly bound to the charger. Microsoft is reverting to the tried and true design of the ancient Nokias which feature an extremely long lasting battery, and an assurance that if you drop it, your floor will crack. The stats are hardly impressive with 16mb of RAM and a QVGA screen with a resolution of just (320 x 240). However, the primary focus is functionality in which will keep it running for thousands of years.

Granted, it is not the most spectacular phone. However, perhaps it is not such a foul idea as it will likely be an extremely cheap phone. Moreover, the phone will be more child-friendly as social media and other potentially dangerous websites will be harder to interact with, potentially giving children a chance to develop a sense of responsibility before entering the smartphone realm. However, Microsoft is making an active initiative to become more environmentally responsible by implementing a phone free of BFR, free of nickel on the product surface, and free of PVC, all considered to be potentially damaging. The packaging will also be made of renewable materials while remaining 100% recyclable. Furthermore, the materials will be 100% recoverable.
