The foldable smartphone list keeps growing. We have the Samsung Galaxy Fold, the Huawei Mate X, the Motorola Razr, and now the Escobar Fold 1 is available from $350.

If anything, the mere fact that the new foldable phone is the creation of notorious drug cartel leader Pablo Escobar's brother should be enough to have people sniffing curiously in its direction.

The creation of Roberto Escobar, the smartphone comes with an interesting back story.

Escobar Fold 1 foldable smartphone

The Fold 1 is an Android 9 phone with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 series CPU. It boasts two 16-megapixel and 20-megapixel cameras, and two 7.8-inch AMOLED screens. It also has a fingerprint sensor, comes unlocked so it "works on all networks in USA and worldwide," according to Escobar Inc's website.

The phone starts at $350 with 128 GB of storage and goes up to $500 with 512 GB

Showcased in an intriguing, and worthy of an eyebrow-raise, manner on the website, the phone is displayed in amongst scantily-clad women. Here's the questionable instructional video for the phone... be warned to watch at your own risk, and perhaps not in a work environment.

Women aside, Escobar assures us that the phone is harder to break than Samsung's Galaxy Fold for instance. The screen is made of a "special type of plastic" and is "very difficult to break". Because plastic is the answer to all our smartphone problems it seems...

Perhaps owning the smartphone would add a sense of excitement given Escobar's family ties. However, placing the phone to one side for a moment, there's more excitement that comes with owning an Escobar-related device.

Escobar's qualms with Apple

You may think that Escobar is going after the likes of Samsung, who are a competing brand after all. But no, Escobar is, in fact, looking to beat down Apple

Why you may ask?

Escobar told Digital Trends "I have told many people that I would beat Apple and I will." When an Escobar brother says something like this, you pay close attention.

He continued, "I cut the networks and retailers, to sell to customers phones that can fold for only $349, phones which in stores cost thousands of dollars by Samsung and others. This is my goal, to beat Apple, and by doing it myself like I always have."

Escobar continued to say that he will land a class-action lawsuit against Apple on January 6, 2020, for $30 billion and that he's so far already spent $1 million to start the legal proceedings.

There's always some sort of thrilling sensation when the name 'Escobar' is read or pronounced, up to you if it's because you're excited about a new and seemingly unbreakable foldable smartphone, an Apple lawsuit, or a historical family story.
