PlayStation 5 Details Revealed: "Spider-Man: Miles Morales" Coming This Year

The much-awaited Sony PlayStation 5 launch happened today and it was quite a show! The launch, called "PS5 - The Future of Gaming," began by announcing that PlayStation 5 will continue its relationship with Grand Theft Auto.

Next, the launch showcased the new version of Gran Turismo 7. Ratchet Clank was back with all its adorable set of characters. Project Athia followed the unique dragon-filled journey of a female character. Sackboy also revealed an action-packed adventure with cute heroes to lead the way.

Goodbye Volcano High seems like a soulful deep game with interesting profound characters. Stray, coming 2021, stars a bunch of robots. Ghostwire Tokyo is adventure packed! Spider-Man: Miles Morales is coming from Insomniac.

Kena: Bridge of Spirits is a stunningly colorful journey while Godfall brings the excitement to the screen. Hitman III takes place in Dubai. Solar Ash is a breathtaking adventure set in space. Astro Bot is back.

Bugsnax will make you laugh and there's a remake of Demon's Souls. Deathloop looks like plenty of fun while Village: Resident Evil is bound to spook you. Horizon Forbidden West follows a female heroine through adventures on strange lands and seas from the future.

Unfortunately, the company didn't unveil the console’s pricing during the launch event. It did however reveal its design.

It is a black and white very futuristic console that matches the new controller and it stands vertical. It will come in two versions: one with an optical drive and one as a pure digital edition.

The console is powered by an eight-core AMD Zen 2 CPU that will provide 10.28 teraflops of power and a custom AMD RDNA 2-based GPU, as announced back in March. The PlayStation 5 will also support 8K graphics and provide highly immersive 3D audio.

Finally, last but definitely not least Sony is using a proprietary SSD solution to provide 825GB of storage and 5.5GB/s of performance in order to boost load time for games and something called "ray tracing"

"Ray tracing simulates the way light moves in real life, and how it bounces off various surfaces. Games that take advantage of this feature will render objects much more accurately, and with heightened realism. Water, glass, light refraction, a character’s hair and so on, will look even more realistic," said Sony in a March press release.

For those worried about their PlayStation 4 games becoming obsolete, it should be noted that PlayStation 5 will support the majority of those titles.

"We’re excited to confirm that the backwards compatibility features are working well. We recently took a look at the top 100 PS4 titles as ranked by play time, and we’re expecting almost all of them to be playable at launch on PS5. With more than 4000 games published on PS4, we will continue the testing process and expand backwards compatibility coverage over time," said Sony in their release.
