It is important for our wellbeing to switch off and relax and there are numerous ways of doing so. One of the best ways to chill out is by floating in water, however the downside to this is that an isolation tank is typically very expensive. Now there is a more affordable option by way of “Float”. Float water therapy products have been made available for sale in Iceland, a place that knows all too well about the benefits and healing properties of water. With Float you can relax in comfort and feel your stress drifting away.

Float offers a complete distraction from outside sources, without the need to be locked in an isolation chamber. Floating offers a weightless experience which in turn allows the bodies chemistry to change. Tension drops from muscles, the heart rate drops, along with the blood pressure, while chemicals that are known to cause stress, such as cortisol, are released out of the bloodstream and endorphins take its place. When floating in water, the mind is able to relax as the brain enters into a theta state, something which is generally achieved when meditating. Of course you don’t realise that any of these changes are occurring, all you need to do to benefit is lie back and relax.

The Float water therapy system comes in two parts. The first part is the cap, which is made from neoprene, polyethylene foam and Lycra, and this makes sure that the head is buoyant. The second part is the support aid, which is strapped onto the legs and is made from Lycra, neoprene and Velcro, which also aids buoyancy. The two parts may be purchased individually, with the cap having a price tag of US$85 and the support aids, US$55 for a pair, or a set can be purchased for US$135, which includes both the Float cap and the supports.

Floating in water using the Float water therapy system is not only a great way to relieve stress. The system can also be used as detoxification; relaxing in water this way has been associated with reducing pain too. It can help to speed up a recovery from illness or injury and is a tool used in the treatment of anxiety disorders and depression. Floating is also said to help those suffering from insomnia, and after the water therapy the subject has a sense of clarity, is able to focus better and feels better overall, mentally and physically.
