An ultrawide monitor is great for extending the view of your computer without breaking up the display with multi-screen setups that leave ugly bezels between each screen. Wide monitors provide the extra room to multitask with more windows side-by-side while providing the ultimate immersive experiences for gamers.

To many, an ultrawide monitor is well worth the extra few dollars. Though they are relatively new to the world of computers, Samsung decided to quash every single ultrawide monitor with the world's first Ultra-Wide 49-inch Monitor.

Recently, Samsung made the official announcement that the Ultra-Wide 49-inch CHG90 display and the 27- and 32-inch CHG70 monitors are available for pre-order.

Other ultrawide monitors pail in comparison to the size of Samsung's latest behemoth. With an aspect ratio of 32:9 for the CHG90, it is substantially larger than other ultra-wides which typically stand in at a ratio of 21:9. In comparison to normal monitors with an aspect ratio of 16:9, the difference is even more pronounced.

Samsung promises both the CHG90 and CHG70 QLED monitors will deliver powerful High Dynamic Range (HDR) picture enhancement technology.

Though the monitors are great for anyone looking for a large display, they are specifically catered to deliver the ultimate gaming experience.

The biggest ultrawide monitor on the market

Samsung is certainly setting a new precedence for gaming technologies. While some may say it is over-kill, the wide screen is not the only prominent feature.

Before making the display, Samsung consulted game developers to discuss how to build a new monitor that displays the game the way they intend. The decision was made to include technologies typically reserved for televisions and large-format displays.

“Gamers want to feel completely immersed when they play, and our new monitors provide the most stunning visuals to deliver the ultimate gaming experience,” says Andrew Sivori, VP, Product Marketing at Samsung Electronics America.

As such, both monitors feature quantum dot (QLED) technologies that enhance the colors of LCD displays. Sivori adds,

“These QLED gaming monitors represent the future of gaming for both casual and dedicated players alike, and we’re confident that our innovative design and state-of-the-art features will enhance the entire gaming arena.”

The insanely super wide QLED monitors are the first of its kind. Samsung promises the displays will practically bring games to life.

"This technology delivers a new metal core and supports 125 percent of the sRGB color space and 95 percent of the DCI-P3 color space, for an exceptionally wide range of accurate color reproduction — especially dark reds and greens — that stay crisp and clear even in bright light." Samsung claims.

Further enhancing the already impressive gameplay visuals, Samsung also decided to integrate both the CHG70 and the CHG90 with AMD’s new Radeon FreeSync 2 technology. The Radeon FreeSync 2 provides low-latency, high-brightness pixels, excellent black levels, and a wide color gamut to display High Dynamic Range (HDR) content - according to AMD

The future of gaming

The addition of Radeon's FreeSync should significantly improve the gamma while enabling HDR gaming. Samsung and Radeon's collaboration has certainly significantly raised the bar for gaming monitors.

“We’re incredibly proud how far Radeon FreeSync™ technology has come in the past two years, with well over 150 displays now shipping in the market,” says Scott Herkelman, corporate vice president and general manager, gaming, Radeon Technologies Group, AMD. “We applaud Samsung for launching the first FreeSync 2-capable displays, these gorgeous monitors should be on every enthusiast gamers’ must-have list.”

A monitor designed around the game

Featuring HDR technology and a superwide screen, the display will also support 3,840×1,080 double full HD (DFHD) resolution across an ultra-wide, 49-inch screen. With it, Samsung promises darker blacks, brighter whites, and significantly more vivid colors.

"The CHG90 also boasts a rapid 1ms response time, 144hz screen refresh rate, and advanced, four-channel scanning technology to deter motion blur throughout the entire screen," Samsung explains.

Without a doubt, the monitors are truly optimized for first-person shooters, racing, flight simulation, and action-heavy games.

Collaborating with EA studio DICE and Ghost Games, Samsung is ensuring to deliver the best experience with a monitor designed around the gaming experience.

“We’re delighted to work closely with Samsung’s monitor team to optimize the CHG90 and CHG70 monitors for our games, which is vital so that our new game title Star Wars Battlefront II, which will be released later in the year, can be mirrored on these HDR monitors the way our game developers intended,” says Oskar Gabrielson, General Manager of DICE.

Marcus Nilsson, Executive Producer at Ghost Games also made comment about their partnership with Samsung.

“Here at Ghost Games, we always look at the latest technology that helps present Need for Speed™ in the best way possible and constantly look to push the boundaries. Technologies like HDR enable us to deliver an ever-greater emotional and immersive experience for our players. Samsung’s HDR monitors allow Need for Speed™ Payback to be exactly that."

The Specs

Of course, Samsung has also released a chart detailing the specs of their monitors (check that out bellow).

The 49-inch CHG90 is currently available for pre-order on Amazon, retailing for the reasonable price of US $1500. The 32-inch CHG70, however, will be exclusively available for pre-order and Newegg at a price of US $600.
