Telsa is preparing to tell the world about its ambitious plans for the future of autonomous cars. The electric car company will give a presentation dubbed 'Investor Autonomy Day,' from its headquarters in Palo Alto, California today from 11am Pacific Time.

Select investors will be in attendance with the rest of the world watching via a video link. The presentation is expected to outline the company's plan for its self-driving technology.

Latest features go on show

A demonstration of the latest developments in Tesla's Full Self-Driving feature is also on the cards. Investors in attendance will be able to experience the self-driving features and functionalities that are still in development.

Tesla CEO, Elon Musk, has said the company is aiming to have its fully autonomous driving technology ready by the end of the year. But regulations and legislation will likely be lagging behind.

Tesla comes to you

The hardware for the company's transition to full self-driving is already being included in current production cars. The latest update of its autopilot software included it's most advanced features today like the futuristic enhanced summon.

“We think including Autopilot is very important because our data strongly indicate that the chance of an accident is much lower when Autopilot is enabled. Autopilot also dramatically improves the quality of the driving experience, especially in heavy traffic, as thousands of our customers frequently describe online,” Tesla wrote in a blog post.

Top executives layout plan

Expected to speak at today's event are of course the company's face, Elon Musk, as well as other key executives including VP of Engineering Stuart Bowers, VP of Hardware Engineering Pete Bannon, and Sr. Director of AI Andrej Karpathy. Telsa recently announced its intention to launch an uber/-like car sharing service once it's vehicles reach full self-driving capabilities.

Musk briefly explained the system which would like Tesla owners to add their cars to a fleet effectively giving them the chance to earn money while they sleep. Around the same time, Tesla launched a leasing option. This allows people to drive a Tesla for a monthly fee, however, at the end of the lease agreement the cars would also enter the autonomous car sharing fleet rather than being owned by the leaseholder.

Tesla’s Investor Autonomy Day will be followed up by its Q1 2019 financial results, and earnings call on April 24. Tune in on today, April 22 as Tesla live streams its Autonomy Day event, beginning at 11 am Pacific (18:00 UTC). The webcast is embedded below.
