Most people carry one or two ink pens around with them at any given point. You can take notes with ease, scribble down important information, puncture a bag of chips -- pens have a bunch of different (and seemingly random) uses beyond their intended functions. One company wants to add even more versatility to a pen. The Xcissor Pen is exactly what it sounds like and combines a pen and scissors for everyday use.

Traditional scissors are bulky, inconvenient to handle, and you never have them when you truly need them. If you try to tote them around all the time, there's a good chance you'll accidentally prick yourself or snip something in your bag. Also, most left-handed scissor users have to buy a pair made for lefties or invest in an ambidextrously equipped pair of scissors.

People who thrive off being prepared for anything will enjoy adding the Xcissor Pen to their arsenal of one-day-useful gadgets. The Kickstarter gadget has already met its $10,000 fundraising goal.

The idea comes from the Taiwan-based company Mininch (pronounced "mini-inch"). The company has three other successful Kickstarter projects -- the Tool Pen, Tool Pen mini, and WRENCHit. All of its gadgets seem perfect for those who always need to be prepared for anything life throws their way.

However, for any pen connoisseur, the true test of a pen isn't what gadgets come inside but how effectively it writes. The pen itself comes with an interchangeable ink cartridge, giving users the flexibility to cater to their needs. Xcissor Pen also includes standard D1 size refills. The stainless steel body with polished finish provides a sleek and professional look. The company claims the pen is "indestructible" with extensive protection against dings and dents.

Its corrosion resistant and doesn't have to be sharpened often. It cuts through frequently used materials with ease -- paper, cloth, thread, even wood. The sleek scissors even offer a natural thumb rest with a forward grip. It's ergonomically designed for effortless cutting.

The pen itself comes in two colors, either silver or black. There are also two types of finish for the scissors, nickel plated or Teflon coated. Both options have benefits. Teflon coating gives users a non-stick exterior. The nickel plating makes the scissors resistant to corrosion. Users will appreciate its surprising lightweight feel at just 60 grams.

Development for the Xcissor Pen was still difficult despite the successes of previous projects.

"This project is the toughest one we had ever made so far, we spent more than 6 months for 5-runs prototyping," the company wrote on its Kickstarter. "One of the main challenges is to create a tiny but complicated structure of the cutting mechanism & safety lock feature, not to mention we implement and hide the whole scissors inside a very small space of pen barrel.

"After 4-run failed prototypes and repeated adjustments, we finally come out a workable one with optimized mechanical design & renewed machining methods."
